The report began with the term "master bedroom" and how the Houston Association of Realtors recently announced it would retire the term and replace "master" with "primary"...
"While it's unclear whether the term is rooted in American slavery on plantations, it evokes that history."
CNN pointed to the terms "blacklist" and "whitelist" and how they "reinforce notions that black=bad and white=good," and suggested that The Masters Tournament in professional golf is also problematic.
The report also took aim at the term "peanut gallery."

Getting digital electronics training way back in '90, I ran into "master" and "slave" circuits in electronics. I wondered then, even in that much more innocent age, if that would mean trouble. I find that yup, it did:
"For some time this standard and widely accepted terminology has been criticized by some as inappropriate due sensitivity about the practice of slavery.
Conversely, such criticism is seen by others as an example of excessive political correctness. There are also practical difficulties in changing longstanding terminology - potential confusion, and additional work.[citation needed]
In 2003, the County of Los Angeles in California asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using "master" and "slave" terminology on products; the county made this request "based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County".[4][5]
Following outcries about the request, the County of Los Angeles issued a statement saying that the decision was "nothing more than a request".[4]
Following the controversy, Global Language Monitor found the term "master/slave" to be the most egregious example of political incorrectness in 2004, and named it the most politically incorrect term of that year.[6]

The Orwellian idea was to control people try to control how they speak. Doubleplusgood, etc.
The main thing to know is that to chance this nazification of our language we eventually, no great hurry, rebel against these Big Brothers. What 1984 lacked was a start, because it didn't matter to the story that Eric Blair was writing, it was just a dictatorship based on communism and nazism.
What was lacking in the book (for necessary literary reasons) was a response from the Proles as in real life there would be.

Eventually, the teaching of history will simply be out of bounds: too many ideas that might pollute people's sensibilities. How much easier to eliminate backward thinking if one simply eliminates backward looking. If terms like "conqueror" are eliminated from our study, they can never occur to us as good ideas.
This may seem ridiculous, but I believe everything will be on the table in good time. I never thought same-sex marriage would be taken seriously either. We were told directly that statues of George Washington would never come down. The temperature is heating up. 451° isn't far off. Mark my words; the book burning will be here forthwith.
