Why not? It's something to do.

"We should care about the translators - we owe them!" (paraphrase)

We owe them their salary, period. Many feel like giving them sanctuary from the very Islamic Taliban. Glad to see that so many understand how nasty Islam is expected by most to act when they take over.

I'm sure the Afghans recall that, as they were in power there just a couple of decades ago.

They've only gotten worse! So sure, feel sympathy for all those who were in any way attached to us or the Gov we kept in power. All are in the sights of those very dangerous Muslims on the march to taking over.

All who can hoof-it should. Pakistan is a problem, as that border is part of "Pashtun Land." Like the Kurds, who inhabit territory of "untold" generations today overlaps four or five Mideast and Near East countries, the Pashtun Land overlaps the Pak-Afghan border.

They're the tribal/clan folks who mostly staff the Taliban soldiery. So the march out of town better be in some other direction!

Given the way Europe still lets wandering masses in from all over the world, that's a good target for their own personal hegiras.

Good luck to them - and your Canadian Gov can offer them Asylum if that's what you want. Ours may - many of our leaders feel the same way.

well, you don't appear to understand anything, like why the afghan people are pissed off. but that's par for the course, I guess, I mean you seem to think that all muslims are the enemy and all afghans are muslims and allies don't matter, because that's super informed and !@#$.

I assume that when you were in country, your job was to polish all the knobs, right?

Here's a quick timeline of events told as simply as possible for clarity. I know this is hard for some of you, but if you stick through it, you'll get there, I have faith in that.

1970's to 1980's USSR invaded Afghanistan. the CIA was involved in training local freedom fighters (the Taliban) in tactics and supplying them with weapons to fight the commie pigs. Yay 'murka!

1991 - USSR collapses and subsequently abandons conflict in afghanistan. USA says job done and abandons local fighters and tells them they are on their own, completely ignoring calls for assistance, because !@#$ 'em. This pisses off one of their main dudes, Osama Bin Laden.

1993 - an explosive device is detonated in the parking garage of the World Trade Centre in New York. The Taliban and Osama Bin Laden claim responsibility. USA says 'tsk-tsk' and moves ahead with sporadic quelling operations in the middle east in a half assed display of "USA big strong - huurgh" flex.

September 11, 2001 - hijacked aircraft are used as missiles on multiple targets on the US mainland in an amazingly well choreographed attack resulting in thousands of lives lost.

shortly thereafter it was revealed that there was a connection with Saudi Arabia and the terrorists, then the members of the Saudi diplomatic corp and members of the royal family were secretly evacuated from the US for some reason, and it is discovered that Afghanistan appeared to be the base of operations for the terror attacks, thus the invasion of Afghanistan commences, presumably to remove the leadership of the group responsible for the attacks.

in May of 2011, the leader of the terrorist organization was eliminated by seal team 6 in pakistan.

From this point it is unclear why the US insisted on remaining in active, open conflict with the afghan people. There was little to no move to try to help with organizing a form of government they wanted, it seemed to be an imposed regime that was not wanted by the people of afghanistan...so conflict raged on for some reason to now.

do you know the reason that the conflict with afghanistan was extended by more than 10 years after bin laden's death? I suspect that the answer is quite clear, but I'm curious to see what others think.
