The Repubs are a flacid party, lulled to sheep-like apathy outside of Trump. The pre-Trump leadership had sold out the country to the lure of jobs and profits with megacap Corps.
This travesty is old, now, in Cali. It got pioneered in the Pre-Trump era. Its one of many travesties we gotta fight.
One aspect of this was when the new law was announced, Blocks-long lines, presumably of illegals, formed outside of Drivers Liscence offices in NY.
Articles in anti-illegal sites popped up saying "call Ice! Massive sweep here! Big numbers - lets roll!"
But of course, no-one did. Even ICE is lulled into sleep to that degree, that they couldn't even take a shot at picking up some of that "low-hanging fruit."

If the Reps don't challenge because the funding is from biz leaders to pols, then the fraudulent votes will get counted. Dead people, people who vote more than once, illegals, legal aliens; whose to stop it??

To heck with ill educated Native Americans, then Blacks, the two-worst affected labor demographics.
Let them be crushed by econ realities, the same realities that boost profits. Let the good times roll, as the Pharoes said long before Creole was spoken in New Orleans.
Bernie - for almost all his career - spoke for closed borders to protect the poorest US workers. "We have to protect our workers first" he would say.
The times are now too much for Bernie - he now calls for effectively open borders. Thus, now the only hope for the least of them - them being our least successful demo - is one Donald J Trump.
Hallelujah! Hope for our poorest has come! One Party now stands with them.
Their former Party, who claimed to "have their back" - now have gated mansions. Zowie! How times they have a-changed!

He has targeted things that he thinks people want to hear, and then peddles it, all the while endorsing the communist path.

Bernie mentions that he doesn't think any nation state would go along with getting rid of borders..
And the Vice guy picks up on that and agrees, that getting rid of borders isn't likely to be accepted by the population..
But you can tell that there's a subtext there, (at least for the Vice guy) that he's all for taking it as far as possible.
In his mind, (the Vice guy) not tearing down the borders completely, is entirely predicated on how much the population is capable of resisting it. Not much concern about making that actually work.. He doesn't seem to give a shiz how that would affect the current population at all.

That article was published online in Sept 2019. It started to be a new publicly during the 2016 Primary he waged against Hillaroid.
I'm sure all remember him mildly giving in to Black Lives Matter protestors who took over his mic at one of his rallies for about 5 minutes of dumb slogans and insults (if you happened to be White).
He also said in that campaign that "If you're White, you don't know what Poverty is."
These are part of the lefty version of US Black politics these days. The borders is simply part of general left politics these days.
He may not believe it - we all know its hard to teach us old dogs new beliefs. But that old Socialist has been good at being a deceptive politician for a looong time.
He simply now has some of that on record for the first time in a long career. An ambition to make it to the White House must have prompted him to toss aside his record for never changing his story.
And in doing so, accepting two ridiculous planks - open borders, and Black Lives Matter orthodoxy.

It'd make an effective clip, to make his campaign look bad. (and drive a racial wedge)
You could kinda tell that they weren't prepared to actually get the microphone.
They were expecting to get pulled off stage, and the males that were with them were there to chivalrously react when that happened, to put on a good show for the cameras.
