Re: Beware the dark side of mind-reading AI

Im looking forward to a world where there are no secrets and people with despicable minds that hide behind a veneer of their public persona are exposed. The private bigoted/deviant thoughts will show people for what they really are. If you're worried about a social network of mindreading you must have something to hide. The tech will be unbelievably useful so id be very suspicious of anyone that doesnt adopt it - what are they hiding?

Oh when theres a level playing field ill be fine disclosing my identity. As you know a nutcase has got my real identity and made various threats against me. I agree its weird that im happier with total disclosure than the etiquette of forum identities, but there you go. If other people can keep their identity secret, then im going to too Spikeosauropod or should i say john.

Which means that your fantasy full-transparency world will never materialize and you will never be a part of it.

I dunno scott. I think total transparentcy will have its appeal, it wont be like forums or social media is today. You're probably right that there will be platforms for the anonymous, but I envisage an interconnected groupmind that will raise us to godlike superbeings. The anonymous with their disgusting thoughts/beliefs will be barred from joining.

Your vision of the future is a combination of a medieval vision of heaven that only the pious can enter and communism on steroids. I am perfectly content to leave people to their disgusting beliefs as long as they do not interfere with my own disgusting beliefs. I suspect that the maxim "Great fences make for great neighbors" applies to thoughts as well as property.

This is a real dividing line. Those willing to join-in to an unrestricted merge will be under the thumb of whoever controls that VR and non-VR alternative reality environment that the "open mind" becomes part of.

The "closed minds" will be outside of their world in a crucial way.

Chinese and many in other countries will be forced to merge into the open mind new way to live.

It will either surprise by becoming wonderful and good - or not surprise by expanding the dictatorial control such countries have now.

Will the "closed minds" be able to compete? We shall see - maybe sooner than we expect.

The China model may be what ultimately turns us all off to the technology. Their already dystopian ways will be amplified and Westerners will be turned away by what they see.

That said, I don't think this will be a problem for very long, if at all. By the time two people are able to combine their thoughts in any way that gives them a collective advantage, we will be well on our way to building purely artificial intelligence that outpaces any human endeavor. People will see that the race is futile, and give it up in favor of a comfortable lifestyle...which will not include compulsory mind-reading.

Enjoy your mind matrix of bigots, murderers, paedophiles and democrats.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Well im fine with that. The Christian model of the binary fate of either of heaven or hell based on your behaviour hasnt changed since medieval times. Of course very bad people can ask for forgiveness and end up in heaven. Also theres going to be folk on the cusp of the boundary between the two worlds. Might make more sense to have a continuum of afterlifes that fairly rewards people. Its almost as if Christianity was a pile of shìt that doesnt make any sense.
