If you peruse some of the comments to your OP linked Breitbart article, you see that you and I have plenty of like minded potential customers that Proctor and Gamble have lost - due to gambling on PC. On being "woke."
That massive loss indicates many, many more that turned away from them.
Evidence that we who see them as scum are far from alone!

The propagandists probably see things this way, 33.
1. It's just a marketing hack that makes us feel good, even though heroes of any race are rare indeed!
2. It makes liberals feel good, even though this is just a fantasy of theirs.
Note: I always wondered if there would be any money to be made in doing one of the many Alternate DC universes, in which Krypton, Kryptonians were African in appearance, just to spice up the visuals a bit? It's been done several times in the actual comics, but this is a money-thing, and I'd want a healthy ROI myself.
The trick is, most Blacks here (target audience?) would have to stand Superman acting 'white,' and I am thinking in the US, they'd want a rendition of Meteor Man, or the Villain would be a Trump lookalike, who really KKK!!! In Sub Saharan Africa it'd probably do very well, but again, ROI, how much?

Yeah, I don't mind re-imagings or even diversifying for inclusiveness.
But these days, they can't seem to help going insultingly overboard. Dr. Who can't just be a female, without slathering it with misandry?
Edit: Altough, I haven't actually seen much of the new Dr. Who. That's mostly second-hand perception)
*My guess is, (as you said), they couldn't resist having the villainous antagonist be a pack of evil white stereotypes, if Supes and co. were "black".
Like they did with Star Wars. They diversified the good guys, (Great.. but are there any white males in the main cast outside of the oldschool characters?) ..but kept the bad guys as evil white villains. Now, I know the empire is somewhat based on largely white historical villains. (Nazis, with some imperial Japan) (rather than Huns, various Islamic Empires, Bantus, etc..)
But, this is also a galaxy far, far away. These aren't Earthlings, they don't speak English, they speak Galactic Basic. There is no Europe, no Japan, China, Africa, Latin America, Muslims or CHristians, etc.. None of that is known to exist to them.
There's no canon that I'm aware of in the Star Wars universe, that categorizes humans by race. There's no canonical reason for the Empire to turn away black and brown people in high-ranking positions.
I'm not saying they can't have historical lessons or even reflect issues in the here-and-now. But, they'd likely wind up filtered in the same way that Gillette commercial is.
And to me, that's a big part of the "escapism" aspect of it. People like fictional universes that aren't too much like our own. You can step away from all of the (real-world) bs for a bit... (kinda like The Lord of the Rings, or Star Trek TNG.)
Handling things the way they do /did, kinda stripped that out of it for me. It's just a space fantasy with interesting special effects now.
I have no interest in it beyond that.
