posticon What to do if I leave a "Move Thread" post.

Occasionally, when I think a thread has been posted in the wrong section, I will leave a post like this:

Image

“This topic should be moved to NewsFlash.”

I do this perfunctorily as part of my duty as Parliamentarian. I will never execute the movement. That is not my job. Also, I will not leave a second notice or address the original notice unless the notice is addressed.

If you are a moderator and you agree, leave a post saying, "I will move the thread in 24 hours." If no one objects in 24 hours, move the thread.

If you are a moderator and you disagree, leave a post saying, "I think the thread should remain where it is." If, over a 24 hour period, no moderator declares a desire to move the thread, you may delete my notice to move the thread, along with any discussion of moving the thread, and give the matter no further thought. Throughout this process you may continue the discussion as if it had not been interrupted.

If one moderator thinks the thread should be moved and another does not, these moderators have one of two options: contact each other and try to work it out or post a motion in the Foundation and Bureaucracy subforum to bring the decision to a vote. A thread may not be moved if any moderator disagrees with it being moved, unless there is a formal vote determining that it should be moved.

If the thread is moved in the way I recommend, either with or without contention, the issue is resolved and you may delete my notice to move the thread along with any discussion about moving the thread that is contained within the thread. Throughout this process you may continue the discussion as if it had not been interrupted.

I recommend that you not mix discussion of the topic with discussion of moving the thread. Posts in the thread should be about one or the other, but not both. In this way the thread will be easier to clean up later.

Seems pretty straightforward.
