A bunch are also on the study, two of which are interviewed by the Doctor who hosts the vid. The news for those of us on Keto, Carnivore, or like me, Ketovore, is promising. It shows that the likelihood of arterial plaques when having sky high LDL - as long as you have no bad health issues, which they screened all in this study for - is: Nada. Here be that vid:   I only call this really good news "promising," and not "Woo-hoo! All worries are gone! Relax and load up on yer fat and ignore your LDL," because the med student - the young dude with the beard - makes it clear that this is a: Prospective Study It has a selected population. Its one of very few on this subject, and the others are much smaller, which limits the impact greatly. That, and other issues, mean that this ain't enough to change the AMA's mind, or the AHA's mind. All three in the vid caution all that they're not your Doctor and do not treat this as medical guidance. Too bad, cautious vid fellows! I wanted to hear something like this. I hosted hints about this study coming out for the last few days, and posted about it in the NewsFlash section here: Anyone Besides Me With Very High LDL On Keto or Carnivore? If So - Good News I'm truly happy with this new vid, and urge anyone also at all interested to watching at least the end, where they describe what they call "The Lipid Energy Model." The current AMA idea about all this is centered on the Standard American Diet (SAD). The various Lab standards are based on that, and on the "average American." All too many of who, tragically to me, are well described by a term we used to use in the Navy: a "Sloppy Civilian. The concept they use is called "the Lipid Hypothesis." It describes how the body metabolizes food into glucose and turns excess glucose into fat and stores it in yer fat cells. One of the guys in the vid came up with a theory to describe how the body flips from metabolizing food into glucose into fat, and instead turns fat into energy. The old "lipid hypothesis" dunna touch that idea. The new "lipid energy model" does. It accounts for an increase in Triglycerides as well as HDL and LDL. The study this vid focusses one helps support this new hypothesis. More, way more is needed to move "Big Med." Especially given the big money that big pharma makes on many drugs beyond Statins - which all on their on are still making huge bank all these many years after they first came on the market. nondisclosed_email@example.com (greendocnowciv1)Tue, 12 Dec 2023 17:22:46 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? He says that after five years, now, its going great. Of course, I'm an easy sell at this point, as I'm now very sold on trying it for at least a month. nondisclosed_email@example.com (greendocnowciv1)Thu, 20 Jul 2023 02:23:04 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? The first time I heard of Carnivore is the now at least sorta-famous issue of Jordie Peterson and his daughter doing it as a nutrition experiment that worked to help a weird, odd, very tiny percentage of anyone having that medical problem issue that they both share as family issue. At the time, I totally dismissed it as a quirk that would probably screw them over time, while hoping that their issues would work out. Over the intervening time, more and more Carnivore stuff has come to my attention - the infamous YouTube algorithm has fed me that, and it has influenced me a lot. I had two days of Carnivore followed by a "standard for me now" two days of fasting over the past four days. The two days of "Carni" happened by happenstance, not being planned at all. I was away for a very short two day mini family reunion, and unable to prepare and eat my usual salad with olive oil combo. That very short time worked out very well, and will be much, much more easy to shop for and prepare. I plan to try a month of it starting next week. Just this morning I clicked on this one, which I find as a very convincing pro-Carnivore vid: The host is a Doctor I saw as a guest being interviewed by a pro-Carnivore vid host I regularly view. Thus the algorithm dutifully slotted this guy into my choices, ah reckon. nondisclosed_email@example.com (greendocnowciv1)Wed, 19 Jul 2023 03:48:41 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? Apparently the actual amount of LDL is much less important than the ratio of LDL to HDL or somesuch. I haven't researched this independently, but folks on online communities seem to think increased LDL isn't inherently a problem. I haven't done any blood tests since starting keto, but my numbers were all good prior to starting.nondisclosed_email@example.com (luciddream00)Sat, 09 Nov 2019 16:34:15 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? My HDL is fine, well within normal range. I dropped almost all exercise except leisurely walks after I started taking care of my Mom after I retired. Before that, I was in very good shape. Regular gym time, lots of road-work. Sudden stop after retirement. For a bit over five years. Now on my own, and was easing back into workout, and then sidelined by some leg issues. The LDL is normal for you, and I'm glad. I've read of it spiking in one or two articles or blogs, and accept it. Knowing that it may come back down makes me feel better. I drink a half-gallon of whole milk a day, six pats of butter in making six eggs a day. A bunch of peanuts and pecans between the eggs. ...EDIT...added 9 Nov, 10:15PM.............. I also get five fruits in that window: grapes, 3 apples, and blueberries. ...EDIT...added 9 Nov, 10:15PM.............. I do that within a five to six hour window, closer to five. Lots of water all day, and vitamin and mineral supplementation. That's an instinctive keto for me. No menu from any site or book -yet. I may do that sometime. nondisclosed_email@example.com (greendocnowciv)Sat, 09 Nov 2019 14:48:23 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? We who are interested in Keto and who are doing it know that LDL's will spike. I flipped less than a year ago to Keto from a very low animal protein diet for many years. I use my VA doctor for annual physicals, and my WBC spike surprised him, so I described my new diet. He had the old on on record for years. That explained the LDL's. He gave me the obligatory short spiel about diet that the AMA has used for so long, and I thanked him, and we moved on. I can deal with that, and he's used to patients who ignore dietary advice - but the Military Docs accepting this surprises me. I'll be looking, and trying to find out how they're responding to this. My hope is that they have some study or two that explains in a way that regular doctors accept, that we have to accept this new way of looking at saturated fat. nondisclosed_email@example.com (greendocnowciv)Sat, 09 Nov 2019 12:48:04 +0000 Re: Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? It 100% scratched my pizza itch. To be fair, the crust wasn't as good as a regular pizza's crust, but the crust is the least interesting part of pizza. Fair trade off though, because I'm down 56 pounds on keto and it's been so easy that it feels like cheating. Apparently Aldi has a 0 net carb bread, but I haven't been able to find it locally.
