Re: A Message to the Moderators: Restructure, Repurpose With Steemit
My Steemit account is $1400 (real dollars) but I only posted for about 4 months a year ago. Haven’t posted for 10 months. https://steemit.com/@redq/transfers
Extropia’s account is public on Steemit, so I’m not giving anything away. Extie’s dollar balance is reported as $15.7K. That’s real money, for now, as far as I can tell. https://steemit.com/@extie-dasilva/transfers
We might be able to use Escape Velocity to benefit all in the consortium. Steembucks! :)
P.S. Hateful balloons.

Forgetaboutit.
Add a new sub forum for steemit, and reformat the site to collapse several sub fora into one.

Re: A Message to the Moderators: Restructure, Repurpose With Steemit
That will require a vote. At least three moderators will need to vote and 3/4 of them will need to support what you want to do. In my opinion, you have already explained exactly what you want to do to the subforum headings. You need to describe exactly what will be done with the existing topics on those subforums.
Note to moderators: If two moderators vote yea on this measure, and no one else votes, it will be declared void. If three moderators vote, two of them vote yea and one votes nay, it will pass and be enacted. You will have 48 hours after Red makes his formal proposal to cast your votes.
quote: P.S. I'm a moderator that is locked out of thread by you? Who has the power? (!)
I closed it so that people would not add any discussion. It is just a model and not a real topic. We should discuss it here. Would you like me to delete it?

OK, I'll make my formal proposal in the next day or two. Thanks, Spike.
P.S. Could the other moderators please signify that they are at least reading this discussion? Giulio? Spud? Devil/green? Richie?

I created the model in the News section just to show what can be done. Would you like me to delete it?

I would. It represents an unworkable model IMHO. Sorry.

Re: A Message to the Moderators: Restructure, Repurpose With Steemit
Since, as a regular member of the forum, I am allowed to express my opinion on any topic, I would like to explain the logic behind the existing forum headings.
During the time that I have been on the KurzweilAI forum, I have come to realize that there are roughly eight personality types that post there. No one fits perfectly into one category or the other, and most members have characteristics of several categories:
Technophiles - interested in the nuts and bolts of existing technology
Science buffs - interested in hard scientific results
dreamers - interested in possibilities of the sort that are described in science fiction novels
utopians - interested in perfecting the human condition
pundits - interested in pushing opinions on current political issues
bureaucrats - interested in site palace intrigue
crackpots - constantly propose il-considered inventions that are often inconsistent with existing scientific consensus
rabble rousers - like to stir things up and get people upset as a sort of game
The topics I devised were not intended to separate categories, but to separate people. They are intended to keep people who tend to irritate each other from being forced to spend a lot of time looking at each other's input. They especially keep those who fall primarily into the pundit category from mixing with those who fall into the science category. However, evidence suggests that the less these eight personality types interact the better they get along.
Moderators will quickly learn where topics go and get used to moving them there. Members will gradually catch on as they see their topics being moved by moderators. This way of doing things takes practice, but it is very efficient once moderators catch on.

Time for the Moderators to take an interest.
Thanks for that Spike. I don’t think we should get into the business of separating people based on our perceived psychological profiles of them, so long as they conform to societal norms.
I wrote about moderation (many times) at Kurzweil.AI. Here’s an example of my (WCiv) theory of moderation from the thread “The Mayor Speech”:
quote: MindX has always been plagued by moderator bias, but things really ran off the rails with the new policy of prohibiting posts that were ‘divisive’. This policy was a frank cave-in to the Left and implemented a speech code of which Herbert Marcuse would be proud ("Certain things cannot be said, certain ideas cannot be expressed, certain policies cannot be proposed"; and “Liberating tolerance would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left.") Western Culture has resulted in the deepest thinking on free speech, yet ‘futurist’ sites like MindX endlessly search elsewhere to find a formula that allows censorship of disagreeable opinions.
Moderation of MindX is desirable and needed, but it should be on a basis on which there is general agreement. Luckily, Western Culture provides just that! Here’s how I’d formulate guidelines for MindX:
1) Comments should relate to science, technology and the future. Posts related to such things as fantasy, partisan politics, personal problems, and conspiracy theories will be given a very short leash.
2) Be very circumspect before engaging in a personal attack. They will get you banned, particularly trolling and/or stalking of other members. Negative conclusions on a topic are of course acceptable, but not mere denunciations of a poster.
3) Vulgarity is not permitted, and repeated vulgarity will result in banning.
4) Talk of violence, either in reference to another member or as a workable solution to sociality ills, will not be tolerated.
5) You have the right of self-defense. If attacked first, you should use the ‘Report function’, but responses to personal attacks will be viewed in context.
6) We all know what civility is. Practice it.
Within about two weeks of applying this policy, MindX would be what it should be.
What is most desperately needed at MindX is a moderator that ascribes to the transcendental values of Western Civilization. That means someone who: embraces our Judeo-Christian values and history; believes in free minds/free markets; and embraces the ideals set forth in the book “Abundance”. I know that asks a lot, but it is what is most needed at MindX.
The Mayor’s Speech: An Open Letter To Ray Kurzweil
http://www.kurzweilai.net/forums/topic/the-mayor%e2%80%99s-speech-an-open-letter-to-ray-kurzweil-1
You asked something like “how would I save what’s already been posted”. Not a problem. You, as administrator, can move stuff around and change the sub fora titles. So, it’s pretty simple. The Foundation and Bureau stuff would all be retained in one forum. Most of your posts go into either the NewsFlash! section (because they're basically just a link to recent news) or, if we roll everything into the MindX forum -- just change the name of the largest forum to “MindX” and move all (the few) posts from deleted fora there. A little change now, but a big pay-off in the future.
The most successful structural element of MindX was its dog-pile format with the latest post on any topic at the top. For any problems here, we have the Netherworld.
P.S. We need a few more moderators on this thread. If we can’t generate more interaction, we need to do something about the moderators. I’ve suggested major changes to the site, and those that purport to be Moderators should take an interest.
