Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics From The Economist.
quote:
Our statistical study revealed no evidence of ideological bias in the search engine’s news tab
quote:
If Google favoured liberals, left-wing sites would appear more often than our model predicted, and right-wing ones less. We saw no such trend.
An actual study, with their methods and data outlined explicitly. If you wanted, you could repeat the study yourself.

--- Account closed permanently. I won't stand for abuse of authority by forum administration to censor criticism of a conservative radio host that celebrated the death of AIDS patients on his show. Maybe some day we'll speak again elsewhere.
Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics I disagree many times with The Economist, since, it went Corbynist years ago. The article is a cover for Google's bribing of politicians (all perfectly legal).
Right now, on general principal because they stifle competition, I am supportive of a Trust Bust, of these corporate thugs. They do have a jolly phone, none the less!
That is an opinion piece. Lots of people have opinions, but few have proper studies with published methods and data.

Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics Very well, we all have our passions, or Chilli Dawgs, as the old Forum Zombiefood pontificated upon. Bob's chilli dawg was horribly, Spike, one of the sanest and most logical writer on any forum, I have encountered.
He may not always be correct or kindly, but he is sharp, and precise.
I would say that we peasants need as accurate information as we can obtain-which may be a hopeless occupation? We live in a Plutocracy.
Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics I've seen a video of a high level Google meeting, where one was boosting the morale of the audience. It was after the wonderful Trump victory in '16.
One of the morale boosters was to not be "too down" on themselves. The woman on the short platform-stage reminded them encouragingly that they had done so much to help Hillary, after all!
Things like these:
Slanting searches and news feeds to keep good Trump news low in news link lists, and on page three or later on search inquiries.
Search for bad news about some Hillary scandal or stumble, and get links for stories that describe it with a spin favoring her.
I looked before I made this post, wanting to inclued that vid - and couldn't find it!
I shall persist, and will find it.
For I hate to see lucid taken in by this deception.
Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics Green: You're welcome to your opinion, but we now have actual data and a study that published it's methods. Until you can provide me something of equal veracity that supports your position then anything you write is easy to disregard as personal opinion. I'm sure a lot of people at Google are liberals, but the data suggests that their search results rely on reputable reporting rather than political bias.
I know you "feel" like Google is ~censoring conservatives~ but the evidence seems to suggest otherwise. Reals over feels Green, you know how this works.

Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics Reals ovah Feels indeed! I share your admiration for Ben Shapiro's slogan - it drives many on the Left a bit batty.
The Economist is like many journals - gone to Lefty-town. Buh by, journalistic integrity!
Let's see, hmm, the perfidy of Google - where should I turn....
Ah! A "fair and balanced" source:
They don't claim it's true. They investigate, and present both sides. The accusation looks legit, and the Google autocomplete, which usually outperforms competitors - oddly fails with Hillary.
Google did put up at least a kind of "explanation," for what it was worth: Here's our algorithm, its doing this...*tech talk*...and thats why it just looks that way.
I suspect you accept the Google case, lucid.
As I wrote earlier, I want you to be offered that vid I described - and will seek it out!
Re: Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics Such "reports" are as good as the push polls the MSM trumpets. They know the result before they start. Kind of like "scientific" studies paid to support AGW. All nonsense.
"Let us all remember that the MSM is not biased against Trump and once said something negative about Hillary, Obama, Bill, Biden etc."

Their explanation seems to be consistent with the study I linked in the first post. Perhaps my opinion will change if/when other studies are done.
