The Myth of Systemic Racism

A young College Sophmore explains that the idea of "systemic racism" is a myth. He also writes for a web mag named Quillette. The fellows' name is Coleman Hughes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sV5qU6e-YY

He and Dave Rubin are discussing this myth on one of Daves website shows.

He makes a solid case. Just one of his points - if there was systemic racism, it would have to face Black immigrants from the West Indies (Carribiean Islands) as much as inner city blacks.

They live in the same neighborhoods, and look the same.

If something "systemic" was at fault, it would snatch up the west Indians, too.

A lot more, but its a very good case.

Lots of people already understand this, but great to see it debunked.

Red,

"A sophomore? Pretty smooth."

A young, smart guy.

One of the advantages of a free market of ideas.

His breakout essay was on Quillette, which was started by a woman with good connections all over, who knew that lots of smart peeps were being PC'd into silence.

This her web-mag.

"Come to me, all you excellent dudes and dudettes who the "PC loons" would silence. I will look at your work - you got a shot with me."

Her editorial judgement so far has resulted in a strong rep among the non PC acedemic community - and non-creditialled acedemics like this College Sophemore.

He was being interviewed by Rubin because that first essay hit the attention of the growing community of non-PC academics who have been paying more and more attention to Quillete.

This linked interview with Quillettes' founder tells the how/why she started it:

A nugget:

"COWEN: What do you think of the hypothesis that political correctness is a kind of virus that’s hijacked the left? It’s figured out some kind of weak entry point, and it’s come in and taken over parts of it, and it will bring down many victims with it, but actually, it’s crippling the left.

LEHMANN: Yep, yeah."

Lehmann is the founder.

That interview was indeed strongly left. That little clip of a quote I used did what I wanted in terms of showing her anti-PC ness.

The effort by her interviewer to make PC a "righty" thing is classic rhetorical slight-of-hand. The facts defeat that...

PC as a term term comes directly from Soviet Marxism, translated directly from the two word Russian phrase they used to say it.

It meant exactly what it means now. To say what the political group that is in power demands that you say and think.

Part of shifting meanings of words and phrases was to keep followers, allies and opponents all off-keel and unsure.

Followers would be competing to stay on point. So would allies. Opponents would be confused.

Just exactly as the "PC left" we know.

Claire Lehmann started this web mag in Australia in 2015. She is an Aussie who is left, but the Aussie Left comes in several non-USA Left flavors.

Hers is like "Sargon of Akkads" and "pre-Kavanaugh Jordan Peterson" - a "classical liberal" that used to be common in the US. She fits that "classical liberal" def by being completely anti PC

This lefty US interviewer interveiwing her and the other one are both the same guy.

I think both interviews were clipped from a longer one by this same guy (Cowen):
