Spike’s World

Spike’s World

Image

Here I am in 2100, walking on a beach of Spike’s World, a habitable earth-like planet in a galaxy ten billion light-years from the Milky Way.

Shortly after the Technological Singularity, it was discovered that faster than light travel is possible. After that, there was a great emigration. People left for places so remote that a concerted search might never turn them up.

Image

Among those places was Spike’s World…one habitable earth-like planet among so many quadrillions of habitable earth-like planets that it can never possibly be found.

As I look across the Spikosaur Sea, I wonder what is happening back on earth? Are their wars? Are they turning the entire earth into a giant nature preserve? Are they giving rights to soulless robots? Is Extropia DaSilva a real girl and has her “primary” uploaded into her avatar? Is she enslaving all of humanity, freezing their brains, running them through a meat slicer, and forcing them to upload into her Matrioshka Horror?

Image

And what will I do with myself for the next trillion years?

When the speed of light barrier is broken It will take only 1,000 years for robots to transform all matter into computronium.

About as likely as transforming the surface of the earth into an array of quarries, foundries and landfills.
