List of gay, lesbian, bisexual people Wikipedia

This list accumulates self acknowledged and historically verified people. It will no doubt be amended in future to include notable transgendered people such as Kaitlyn Jenner, Chaz Bono and Christine Jorgensen.

I have heard that Alexander the Great was gay, but, for the life of me, I can't see how anyone could know that. He did marry the beautiful Roxana.

Historians attribute that at the death of his lifelong warrior partner and sleepmate Haphaeston in a battle that Alexander laid on the body for 6 days and had to be dragged away forcibly. He might not have been gay but he sure had strong feelings for another guy.

Unfortunately, in our society, it is quite common for men to be "accused" of being gay when they exhibit a strong emotional bond for a male friend.

I put "accused" in parenthesis, because I realize that it is inappropriate for such a suspicion to be considered an accusation. However, those who declare it often do so with extreme malice.

I don't suppose Alexander the Great gave much consideration to the thought that his love for his friend might be interpreted by shallow 20th and 21st century historians as a sign that he preferred intercourse with members of his own gender.

By the way, I do not think this needed to be in the Netherworld section. Some may disagree with it, but it is still mainstream information. If it said that many famous men were pedophiles, and, further, that this was to be seen as a desirable trait, it would qualify.

The Ancient Greeks were not the only society known to be openly accepting of homosexuality.

Another was Rome, but in a much more limited fashion. The Roman had to be the "pitcher." If it was known he was the "catcher," he was ridiculed.

Few other societies we know of, of the many we have studied. The vast majority condemn or barely tolerate (or if past, tolerated) homosexuality.

So old Al certainly may have, which is the vast consensus of historians. But it can be argued endlessly.

One of the greatest shocks of my life was when I actually read Josephus. I had always heard that the passage about Jesus was an interpolation, probably made by Eusebius, but when I actually read Antiquities of the Jews, my eyes were opened. It reads like a fable, filled with the most improbable and certainly made up things that anyone could imagine. Other original works I have read lead me to the same conclusion that Henry Ford reached: history is bunk.

We don't really know very much about the past.
