An almost 80 year old man who would not be able to fight off a home invader stopped one.
By shooting his legs off with a shotgun.
Heh heh.
"A 79-year-old homeowner in Benzie County, Michigan, greeted an alleged intruder with a shotgun blast to both legs.
Up North Live reports the homeowner heard strange noises in his barn just before 11:30 pm Tuesday night. He armed himself and went to investigate.
Once inside the barn, he confronted an alleged intruder, ordering him off his property. At that point, the homeowner said the suspect allegedly came at him in a “threatening manner,” so he fired the shotgun, hitting the suspect in both legs."

The scumbag will not loose his legs - the homeowner was shooting birdshot.
Todays' "equal outcomes" argument applies here - we do not want an equal outcome between home invaders and homeowners.
We want a very unequal outcome. We want the homeowner to be able to kill or disable the invaders if possible.
Thus, private gun ownership, as his fine old fellow demonstrates for us.

There are, for sure, downsides to gun ownership, like uncontrolled people wielding them. In my mind the Chinese concept of "evil uncles" comes to mind, as a public safety committee for approving the sales of firearms (not government) by, having the force of law.
This of course is fraught with peril as well, but it is aimed at preventing the Broward shootings, in mind. My imaginary safety committees would be made up of gun owners, and would be prevented by law, to be owned say, by all dems or reps.

Our original conception of the US let all States be almost completely autonomous - for gun ownership, storage and use, very much so.
Some old west towns prohibited guests - strangers or visiting area ranchers or farmers - from shooting out in the open, in town.
This idea of a restricted, gun control-happy old west is very exaggerated, however.
