Young people should be respected not sneared at
Im 46. An old bessie. When i was a teen we rebeled by mocking the older generation. I guess the same is happening now. Me? Im glad. Not getting the music or culture or lifestyle of a 17 year old is exactly how it should be.
They seem to embrace new technology - i know plenty of people of my generation who dont.
However this worries me. How exactly do we deal with the luddites? When implanted nanotech is seamlessly intergrated with my brain how am i supposed to deal with the luddites who want to remain "natural"?
Its anyones guess as to how many of them there is going to be. The enlightened transhumans will surely crush the luddites - will it be a form of genocide?
If so i dont want any part of it.
How do we treat humans that dont want to transcend?

Well, technology, many 'progressives,' are in horror at how well the fundamentalists adapt. If you are transcending politics Falken (are you?), then, I believe that based in everything we know, everyone will go for (!@#$ the term, Singularity!)The Push.
The PUSH is a term I just came up with now, that describes The Singularity, but with more fun, and flexibility. A few, still view it as an instantaneous, cataclysmic, event beyond knowing. The Push says, "yeah, we will surely, know some things," and the dream of ascendance to (?) godhood, is just so-so, science fiction based fantasy. Crap like that will happen, but not in 50 years. Centuries to mine stars and resurrect the dead. We need to vastly expand our knowledge base in cosmology, for one.
The Push will be closer to K. Eric Drexler's nanotechnology, except it will include 3D printing as well, and, it will change human lives for the better, much more than any previous change.
To succeed in The Push, don't do nothing, just sit there and have a pint and a pie, and don't bump into the furniture.

I too am troubled by the term Singularity. Theres so much BS revolving around the term - if you're a more moderate singularitarian - you possibly find the timescale for ubertech a joke. Im not at all sure about Drexler eithet. Perhaps i should call my self a futurist rather than a singularitarian - the term is more vague and doesnt have an apocolyptic date attachwd to it.
As for my politics - yes i do think my ideas transcend the left/right divide. I dunno if this is the case in america but in blighty we have an aphorism that "the older you get the more right wing you become." This is true for me but i remain left of centre. Whats more true is im more sympathetic for people in power - whether it be political or running a multinational multibillion compamy. Sometimes you're faced with a choice where if you go for option A you fòck over a load of people, but if you chose option B you also fòck over a load of people.

I realize now that intelligence is a self-sustaining system. Software has much greater fluidity than the brain. It can change itself as to the way we lean things and change ourselves internally. Someday everything will just wake up.

I sneer at everybody because they suck, and, of course, I do not!
Unless we make engineering progress fast enough, we won't even get a Push. Anime may be correct that intelligence is synergistic, but I am grouchy today so thus, not so optimistic. My motto for the day? Ah! !@#$ it!
