In articles like these, the writers need to show why their system will work, while all others have never worked? What changed to make this forecast pan out?

It is odd to read an article like this that acts like Lockheed has a straightforward plan to commercialize miniaturized fusion reactors while nobody has yet to (publicly) even reach break-even.

Account closed permanently. I won't stand for abuse of authority by forum administration to censor criticism of a conservative radio host that celebrated the death of AIDS patients on his show. Maybe some day we'll speak again elsewhere.

That was my reaction too. I guess we will see!

However, here is a thought. If I won a lottery prize of $500 million, I would make sure the money was secure before I let anyone, even my closest family members, know about it. If I invented something that was priceless and destined to change the world forever, I would probably patent it quietly and set up a patent defense fund before I ever bragged about it.

This is why I don't immediately disregard Lockheed's claims. If I had to make a list of the organizations that might secretly have figured out commercial fusion reactors, Lockheed would be at/near the top of the list.

Look for the new thing that makes the difference. No new thing, then it's vaporware.

It is worth noting that they do not plan to have this in production tomorrow:

quote:

Dr. Thomas McGuire, the project’s head, declared that the goal was to have a working device in five years and a commercial production reactor design within ten.

This will be ready about when I expect computers to reach AGI. Hey, the robots have something to look forward to!
