Giving the future a ‘hole’ new perspective

I often get asked the question, “How did you become a futurist?”

When I get this question, I know that the person asking is secretly thinking that being a futurist is one of the coolest professions of all times, which it is. And they want some concrete process for becoming a futurist, which there isn’t.

Becoming a futurist is really a calling. You are being called by the little voices in your head to spend slightly over 24 hours a day researching and thinking about the future. And if you run out of time, your only option is to build “time-expanders” into your day to unlock enough additional brain spectrum to complete whatever insights you’re working on.

Until now, the process I’ve used has always been a secret. I’ve been debating for years whether I should reveal my mysterious process. Usually the debate is taking place between the little voices in my head, but lately the arguments have grown so loud that that they wake me up at night.

Another way is to sample a very wide number of short story and novella and novel writing Sci Fi.

A childhood filled with that, along with other genres, set a future filled imagination in place along with the other interests.

I think this is pretty common. So if not already there, and if ya be a consenting adult - go for it.

I suspect that you will find one or more writers to your liking, and off you should then go into their writing. Soon your mind will have plastically adapted to the new genre, and the future will now be one of your playthings.

Red's Great Adventure

Want to know how to become a futurist? It’s simple. Put the pedal to the metal.

I was working at a place and a lawyer friend and I decided to go diving at Cozumel. Well, we went down there and jumped on a tourist boat that drove us over the ocean waves for hours, then dumped us off on the edge of the Centennial Shelf. We did a deep dive for a little time, then spent hours driving back to Paradise Reef, which maxed out at 30 feet and required us back to the boat after 30 minutes. Then they returned us to the dock. Full day, expensive, adventure (not). Thanks a lot.

Next day we walked up and down the marina until we found a fast boat to Paradise.

We spent several days of unlimited diving on Paradise Reef (as I mentioned, it was less than 30 feet). It was beautiful, but when we got bored we played a game of feeding chicken out of our hand to Moray eels. Got some great pictures. When those suckers come out of their holes they opened their mouths wide and can take off a piece of your upper arm.

It was fun.

Now, this story is not to tell a great vacation story, but to express my total lack of interest in vacations or other diversions. I want missions. Dangerous missions. Legendary missions. Missions for which I’m the man for the job. I’m happy to say, I’ve had a bunch of them. I hate wasting time, like "vacations".

So, what is a futurist? You’re a futurist if you are on the cutting edge. You're a futurist if you can't waste time. You're a futurist if you want truth and hate lies. Nothing more and nothing less.

Don’t talk, do. Fight fiercely for what you think. Advance to the sound of gun fire, no matter your chosen profession.

That’s a futurist.

Ok spike, tell me how to insert an image. The skeleton key eludes me.
