Chinese Ghost Cities - This Place is So, So Corrupt...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XopSDJq6w8E
Whole cities and tracts of housing have been build on spec as investments. Due to the corruption, truly insanely bad construction is rampant.
Many empty cities are around, known as "Ghost cities."
The hosts are two guys who have been touring and posting about China for over a year.
They both are married to Chinese wives and live there.
They explain how the "investments" work and how when the buildings collapse and people die, it somehow doesnt make the news.
As they discuss, they are touring a place they saw going up. And its almost crumbling around them.

That is exactly what will happen with their huge AI program. They will present the world with a big box that is crumbling on the inside. It may even be a true Chinese room...hint, hint...

Re: Chinese Ghost Cities - This Place is So, So Corrupt...
Spud and I discussed that specific YouTube duo back on KAI.
They have another episode on Ghost cities, and it explains that China is going through a years-long housing bubble, which as we know has to pop sometime.

They show some weird examples indeed. In one case, it took a while, but building a city "on spec" paid off, and it eventually filled up.
In a sense, its a weird extreme that has resulted from China riding the tiger of capitalism and letting the market go. That has resulted in some great things for many Chinese, and for their Commie leaders.
It has also resulted in this years long housing bubble. Now we get to see how the amazing ChiCom "masters of managed capitalism" figure out how to "wisely" deflate this bubble.
The two guys say the Commies have tried once or twice - but have not stopped peeps from chasing that buck.
We know from our own housing bubble, the last time - chasing that apparently "easy money" is seductive when you know others have been able to grab some.
