Re: The Clown bets of self service kiosks
This makes sense in terms of short term automation. Taking a fast food order is something a machine can do much better than a human right now.

Re: The Clown bets of self service kiosks
And "15 Now!" helps push the push to automate right along.
The drive to force traditional bottom line low pay first job opportunities vanish like tears in the rain is rollinnn, rollinnn, rollinnn, alonnng.
Rolling right over young career work starts that will never happen.
And oh jeez - not only is the movement cruel to the young who will never even know what has been taken from them - even the very movement itself is messy! As in corrupt.
A Seattle stalwart for "the people" and movements like this, one "Kshama Sawant" appears to be up to her corrupt neck, along with her hubby, in sucking funds from these "peoples movements" like low wage action groups.
Gosh - it's come to the point where you cant trust an openly Socialist libbo demagogue!

The technology, research and design are maturing whether or not employees make a few extra dollars an hour. Robots won't be assembling Big Macs any time soon, but a big touch screen is an obvious and inevitable replacement for cashiers in a world where hardly anyone pays with cash. More orders can be placed simultaneously, while customers spend longer (and apparently spend more). That is an impossible to ignore value proposition whether you're paying $15 an hour or minimum wage.
