im a lefty but im totally prepared to comprosmise with the right

The world is going to !@#$. They'res division that has no compromise. i believe theres the sensible voice comes from singularitarians like us. i hugely disagree with many folks that post here. but i feel i have more in common with them than folk who are on my suppossed politocal spectram. we need to get over are differences and see the BIG PICTURE! Karl marx and ayn rand were both wrong. theres a new demension outside those parameters. i truely belive there is a philosophy which can unite us.

Free minds/free markets/free speech?

Limit the regulatory state?

Stop with the wild deficits and cap taxes?

I'm ready to deal!

Gents to quote PJ O'Rourke, "I'm an American, I want to solve problems with technology, not through government."

This is where the future is and where hope exists. Falken, specify a problem you want to solve by identifying it first.

RedQ-13K as I understand Murrays proposal tain't jack. Maybe if it was 13K in sticks and then when it rises enough, sell short.

If its Gov-mint FIAT money, why not say that within a state, or multi-state region, we print out "RedQ Bucks," for a ginormous amount of money -lke 4 times Murray's amount, and the Redq Bucks would be honored everywhere with the region. You could still have USA currency, backed by: gold-silver-platiunum-thorium-uranium-lithium-erbium-wheat-soy-quantum supercomputers-laser fusion-etc...

All you have to do is work 32 hours per week. Yes, my scheme is based on technological prowess.

It's the equivalent of what the govt spends per capita today, but far more efficient. So, it will probably save money if you fire most of the bureaucracy (they'll have the UBI!).

If an able-bodied person shows up asking for a handout, the answer is that "you've got the UBI!"

Murray's plan is rather brilliant and would, I think, have broad support, especially among the moochers.

But I like the idea of RedQ bucks.

Prof Falcon,

The following terms are used with US orientation: lefty and lefty/progressive for Dems, and conservo for Repubs. Classical Liberal means the same in the UK and US. Most in both countries no longer know what it means.

You self identify as a lefty. The old term "Classical liberal" has most of its values now identified with conservatism, and the rest now shared between the left/progressives

What Red noted about a bunch of freedom is usually objected to by Dems/lefty's in the US because they want to tell us how to live and do business, far beyond simple health and safety issues.

"Guns to Yanks" you blokes will never get. Our Dems are your soulmates on that one.

What Red and Spud were discussing with UBI is an case where our libbo's part with us often, as they want to add UBI on top of current welfare-type spending.

Our partisan bickering can be civil. The idea of finding a "universal solvent" that will turn todays deep, rocky partisan gulf into golden unity is a nice, big task to set yourself.

As in that old Arab tale - who knows? Maybe the horse will learn to sing.

And encouragingly, we are not condemned to bickering if you fail to find some "bickering cure." Many of us like civility, and that tends to encourage more fruitful discourse, and fewer "flame wars."
