Rule 4 issue with respect to Administrators/Moderators

Rule 4 reads:

quote:

4. Multiple Identities: Members may have only one identity on the forum. Forum administrators may have one non-administrative, non-moderator identity in addition to their administrator identity.

I bolded the part that I see a potential problem with, as this seems to me like something that could be abused in order to create sockpuppet accounts.

I think either the administrators shouldn't be able to participate in discussions on their administrator accounts or they shouldn't have alternate identities.

Re: Rule 4 issue with respect to Administrators/Moderators

I wrote the rule that way so that I could participate in forum discussions as a regular [sign in to see URL] immune to moderator actions like having my threads moved or my posts edited.

Spikosauropod is called the "Parliamentarian", but I created that post with no special powers. It is just a title I gave myself so that I could encourage members to follow the rules without seeming like a busybody.

My Administrator identity exists mostly as a mechanical necessity. Without it, there would be no way to set up the forum or make physical changes requested by members. That is why it is called "TheInvisibleHand".

However rule 4 could be changed if 3/4 of the moderators agreed. In that case, I would probably resign as TheInvisibleHand and turn the administrative powers over to Spikosauropod. I couldn't quit being Spikosauropod. I have used that identity on Runboard for a dozen years and it is the one everyone knows me by.

I have suggested the idea of Administrator elections, in case members wanted someone else to be the Administrator. So far, that idea has received no support. I don't mind being the Administrator, but it was not my plan when I started this. I just wanted us to have a place to go when the KurzweilAI forum shut down.

Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from. As long as it is disclosed I don’t see a problem with keeping a separate administrator account.
