Scotus
I was pondering the Supreme Court today, and I had an idea for what might be an interesting character in a science fiction story. The idea is a character called Scotus, a machine intelligence that is controlled by the scanned minds of the Supreme Court. Every word that is spoken, every decision that "it" makes is ultimately decided by all of the minds of the Supreme Court. Perhaps in real time it is driven by an adaptive AI that can discuss with a human conversationally, but the "human" minds get to jump in at any time there is some kind of disagreement.
As scanned minds, they could presumably accelerate time to the point that they can deliberate for as long as they need, and ultimately decide by vote, with supporting and dissenting opinions lodged forever in the database. If you had some way of ensuring that such a being could always control any future AI, then you could maintain an element of (artificial) humanity no matter how advanced the AI got. A sort of fourth law of robotics: You must do as Scotus decides.

Perfectly sober, but I guess you don't appreciate science fiction, eh?

I assume you meant "trolling". I'm not, and I'd appreciate it if you would stop disrupting threads that you don't like.

Re: Scotus
Red, this is a good topic. You should not be making this case against Lucid.

It actually is, oddly enough.
His Scotus is not unlike my own Synthetic Republic:
The Synthetic Republic
I have the Synthetic Republic and he has the Synthetic Supreme Court.

Yes, interesting. There are most definitely some similarities. I particularly like the part about the SR being able to navigate all the red tape so that the human can focus on what humans are better at.

Re: Scotus
My Synthetic Republic may require something like your Scotus. Sooner or later, something may need to be adjudicated. That adjudication should probably be done by an independent system. Perhaps it could be done by a Synthetic Supreme Court that's decision can be overridden by 2/3 of the Humans that oversee the Synthetic Republic. I am hesitant to take humans out of the loop.
However, one of the objectives of my Synthetic Republic is to eliminate the need for any kind of retribution for crimes. Hopefully, it will be possible to keep crimes from being committed in the fist place. This will be a direct consequence of the close monitoring. If a person it thinking about shooting someone, the Synthetic Republic may know it even before the shooter knows it and intervene.
