Kurzweilai forum is truly gone

I note that the forum link on [sign in to see URL] is gone now. So, it wasn't April Fools joke then. So sad. :(

In case you have not been following the history, they were originally going to shut down on January 1. Then, they delayed it to January 31. Then they delayed it to April 1. Finally, they delayed it to April 3, when it actually shut down.

Magnus, consider this the home of lost Kurzies.

The weirdness of the KAI homepage with no forum link surprised me. I think I thought they would keep pushing it back.

Welcome. Add your distinctiveness to our own!

Re: Kurzweilai forum is truly gone

I was on Kurzweilai pretty often. As a lurker at first, then as a poster.

I tried to avoid redundancy on topics that the established posters had already discussed quite a bit, so it took a while. (Tis inevitably unavoidable anyway)

So I posted on more of the quirky topics.

But then, I did hate to see a heavy, thought provoking post sink to the second page without many responses, so I'd drop a laymen comment or inquiry to give it a bump and show some appreciation for the effort.

Anyway, did anyone manage to archive the Kai forums? I feel like that was a major loss of information..

Re: Kurzweilai forum is truly gone

I wrote my heart out on KAI for a decade. I did so because I thought a site like KAI would be forever, and I could look back and trace my intellectual development. Then Kurzweil, the jerk, wiped it all out because he was too weak to moderate the forum properly.

I've saved most of my threads (not all my posts of course), but now all of it, including lengthy and sometime brilliant comments, are all just closeted up on my hard drive. What a crime. I think it's fair to be bitter about it.

I wish I'd discovered Steemit much earlier when I was focused on writing.

I share your sentiments RedQuist.

The owner of the Valley Forge Music Fair -- Sheldon Gross -- did a similar thing. He built a cultural icon and then destroyed it -- tore down the theater and sold the lot to Finkelstein's Grocery Mart.

Everyone in the Devon/Valley Forge area was pissed and did not patronize the grocery story, which finally went bankrupt. Now there's a Barns & Noble on the lot. We all will also make that go bankrupt too.

So the moral of the story -- Kurzweil and Gross -- is if you build a cultural icon, at least be willing to sell it to Gentiles for a reasonable price -- not some greed-infested pie-in-the- sky price that only your bank buddies would be willing to pay.
