Re: Kurzweil Forum Shut Down

This EV, this offspring of the KAI forums, surpasses the KAI forums as a font of free expression.

Now the old forum has literally died.

Killed by its father! Or at least, with his approval. Oy!

*shudder* Back to expression!

The culturally shared US-UK "freedom of speech" idea, tragically, almost analogously differs.

Anime, you know you are free to revile Spike.

I only note that to contrast that freedom with the chancy, "maybe blocked or erased, maybe not" past-KAI we were in.

Red defends Spike and you attack Spike, also freely. I second Red.

While I disagree with you, Anime, I salute your act of expression and that this is your position - truly.

Red notes Mill (vie Bloomie) in his second of those two posts. We benefit from the whole gamut of the Scottish Revolution Mill was part of in this culture. That revolution endorses any revolution of thought, a full-throated endorsement of freedom to speak, write, and express oneself.

Spike did so on KAI and here. You as well. So many did, and the wars and blocking and exile some endured on KAI were sometimes recounted both there and here. And now...

Here, in the Netherworld, none of us can be as Milton sort-of expressed it, a leader in some kind of hell. Hell - sometimes called "the Netherworld."

Even if none of us can rule in our Netherworld, all of us can fully express ourselves here.

That is the prime virtue of this section, even as the most fun we have will be from sometimes "off the wall" subjects.

Re: Kurzweil Forum Shut Down

If you look at the Google news page at any random time, it is absolutely clear that they screen articles in favor of lefty causes. Google is populated with far-left people.

Ray Kurzweil now works for Google. I suspect that he is caught up in their weird morally ambiguous PC culture that, while not carefully thought out, has so many lefty assumptions at its core that it is impossible to share any right leaning opinions without abrasive encounters. Constant abrasive encounters will wear anyone down in time. A hero may have the courage, strength and skill to defeat Goliath, but soldier ants will eat him alive.

Ray has undoubtedly encountered some friction owing to some of the right-leaning opinions at KAI...or he was aware that it was possible. He is a busy man and wants to concentrate on his work at Google and his futurist books. He doesn't want to get caught up in a James Damore type struggle. Consequently, he has quietly liquidated the comments and forum at KAI.

I don't blame him. As a teacher, I must constantly monitor what I say and how I say it. I inevitably curtail many of my most strongly held opinions in favor of making it to retirement without ending up in a soup line. I am still afraid to say Merry Christmas to students. Imagine that? Back in Jimmy Stuart's It's A Wonderful Life days, such behavior would have been unthinkable. We all sell our souls to keep our jobs!

It is simple,

spike did not wish for topics he believed should not be discussed, to be discussed.

We disagreed on what should and should not be discussed.

Thus I was in opposition to spike.

I did what I could by speaking out to keep these topics open to discussion.

That's all I did.

That is not speaking out against spike.

That is speaking out against the impeeding of the open discussion of the topics spike wished closed I wished open.

Well, Amime, that's just silly.

Spike, I think your conspiracy theory is pretty good. We really need to embrace the fact that Lefties will stoop to demolishing the careers of people who are Right.

I actually do not consider it a conspiracy theory. No one has conspired to keep me from saying Merry Christmas at work. Yet, I am afraid to do it. I doubt Google has slipped any secret warnings to Ray Kurzweil. They have probably told him straight out that his website with all its "strong political positions" is a "possible problem". Even if they haven't told him that, he is aware enough to see the writing on the wall.

RedQ: that's just silly.

Spike believed consciousness was off limits for discussion on Kurzweil forum and this fact is undeniable. He said mysticism had no place on the forum. I disagreed so I advocated that philosophy was important to the forum and consciousness was a valid topic. He said is was unscientific and had nothing to do with technology. He said so in every discussion so I gave reasons how we might understand consciousness and everything surrounding what we knew on the topic. Callings my position silly that I have no legitimate reasons for wanting to have consciousness remain a topic on the forum diminishes my viewpoint.

Spike said no discussion of consciousness on Kurzweil forum. Animekitty said yes to discussion of consciousness on Kurzweil forum.

My views are not silly.
They count for something.

I should add that at one time Amara actually said the forum did not reflect the values they wished to convey and that was why it was blocked from search. She quickly deleted that and refused to acknowledge it later, but I have never forgotten it. From then on, she insisted the reason for the blackout was that the forum had simply grown too large and dominated search results.
