This sort of reminds me of a depiction of a future porn industry in a science fiction novel. In this future, the porn industry no longer bothered hiring handsome and beautiful people to star in their productions and were instead relying on homeless and other less-than-desirable folk to do the actual bump and grinding, paying a lot less for their services than the sexy porn stars of old. Then, they would map more beautiful faces and bodies onto the uglies having sex in front of the cameras.

From that novel to the indie porn producers mind. For many biz owners, one theoretical option is to be able to take advantage of switching a population of established workers at said cost to the most low-ball replacement worker imaginable.
Thats far from cutting edge management theory - its an old idea. For managers who keep it in mind, it just takes seeing where you can apply it - where to find the cheap replacements and specifically how to toss the current crop.
In the case of porn, the movie world workforce "talent" is "at will" employed - they can be kicked at whim.
And gee, do we have a whole gen of hedonistic and fairly amoral youngsters out there? Yup. And of course, yes, the homeless.
You may have predicted an actual future move in the porn industry here, Extro, with your literary recollection.
