It should be pointed out that there is clear proof that climate-change deniers are liars and fabricators of evidence.

This proof comes in the form of the ‘climategate scandal’ which they claimed revealed a conspiracy to fake data supporting climate change, but which has since been revealed as nothing of the sort. So we now know to be wary in trusting these propagandists and their ‘facts’.

I had to read that twice, because I was in disbelief. That statement is grossly ignorant.

I guess you really didn't have any videos that present "evidence and graphs [that] required very little explanation. Anyone can work out what a temperature graph staggering up and up and up right in recent decades means."

Spiko said that the climate scandal happened, and that is true. The scandal itself did happen. However, it turned out that this was a fabricated scandal involving cherry picking quotes from a huge amount of email and quoting out of context.

The data behind the hockey-stick graph have been double-checked by genuine skeptics and found to be correct.

There is one instance in which RedQ is a bit right. There are no videos that show clear evidence of climate change and it was my mistake to say there were. But there are graphs that show temperatures are staggering up and up and I can’t believe anyone seriously interested in this issue (whether they think there is credence in it or they suspect it is baloney) can have missed graphs like that.

Oh, one comment on an Climate change denial video made me giggle. Someone pointed out that environmental activists like Extinction Rebellion are like traffic lights in that they call themselves GREEN because they are too YELLOW to say that are REDS.

This pathological confirmation bias is the best argument that "Global Warming" is a religion: Gaia Worship. There is no point in reviewing the case. Nothing will change.

This is from the other AGW thread going now. As I suspected, you've seen temperature reconstructions like this and took them as fact. The reconstructions are completely bogus as demonstrated by the observed data (this was presented to Congress).

Manufacturing Alarm: Dana Nuccitelli's Critique of John Christy's Climate Science Testimony

quote:

“It’s impossible, as a scientist, to look at this graph and not rage at the destruction of science that is being wreaked by the inability of climatologists to look us in the eye and say perhaps the three most important words in life: we were wrong.”

The East Anglia climategate scandal was noteworthy because it provided proof of a conspiracy to manipulation climate data. The 'hockey stick' models above are from these guys.

Now look Ex, I and others have given you enough info for you to critical evaluate the issues of CAGW. You like to wear the mantle of a scientific mind, but if you are not open to these arguments it's all just a fraud. You are being sucked in by a lie because it fits what you want to be true, not what is clearly true.

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.”

If the reconstructions were indeed completely bogus, then how come when a group of CAGW skeptics reran the models they did not show it was made-up nonsense but instead ended up reconfirming that the hocky stick graph was right, after all?

Re: A looming unease with how Capitalism is operating at Davos

RedQ referenced the Nazis (apparently I am of a totalitarian mindset that is worse even than that bunch of genocidal thugs. Good to know I excel in something).

So since the Nazis have been brought into this debate and you can’t accuse the second person to do this of ‘Godwin’s Law’, I will point out that there have been people who say the Holocaust was a fraud and even present evidence which, they say’ shows there was in fact no orchestrated plot to wipe out an entire People. Tell these people that Zyklon B was used to gas people and crematoria were buit in order to dispose of their bodies, and they will reply “no no, those gas chambers were only for disinfecting clothes and the crematoria only for disposing of bodies that died of disease”. Refer to Nazi documents which outline a Final Solution involving the ‘extermination’ of Jews and they’ll reply that the German word for ‘extermination’ can also mean ‘deportation’ and that the Final Solution was just deporting the Jews out of the Reich.

In fact, if you look at each bit of evidence arguing for an actual holocaust in isolation, it’s true to say that there are skeptics who claim to have reason to believe that evidence is not sufficient, or just wrong.

In other words, if Red and Spiko were as determined to deny that past holocaust as they are to refute a possible future one, they could find graphs and ready-to-hand arguments supporting their position.

But this would be an erroneous belief. You will notice I said that ‘if we look at each bit of evidence in isolation’. But nothing is ever elevated to the status of theory on the basis a particular bit of evidence. No fossil confirmed the theory of evolution, no photo of a pile of bodies proved there were death factories in Poland purposefully built to exterminate those deemed unworthy of life by Hitler, and no graph told us CAGW is happening.

No, it is the convergence of evidence that elevates a hypothesis to the status of a theory, or historical fact. In the case of the holocaust when you consider how written documents, eyewitness testimony, photographic evidence, physical evidence and demographics fit together, the overall picture is only really interpreted as showing that terrible event known as the Holocaust really did happen. Or, when evidence from geology, palaeontology, botany, zoology, herpetology, biogeography, anatomy and physiology is all brought together, there really is no conclusion to be drawn other than ‘evolution by natural selection happens’. Or when you keep hearing of record-breaking weather events, and there are eyewitness reports around the world of unprecedented environmental change, and you can see from space that life-critical ecosystems like the oceans and the great rainforests are being destroyed in the name of profit you can you consider all that along with the hockey stick graph which was reconfirmed as true by skeptics and you also take into consideration the proof that those ‘skeptics’ who orchestrated ‘climategate’ in the first place were liars who favricated the whole thing...you can only conclude that you SHOULD have a growing unease with how Capitalism is operating and that CAGW is a real problem that needs to be addressed not wished away.

Re: A looming unease with how Capitalism is operating at Davos

Ex, after the Shroud of Turin was carbon dated and proven to be a medieval forgery, I ignored all attempts to rehabilitate it as a religious relic. After the following, I ignored all attempts to rehabilitate global warming:

https://principia-scientific.org/breaking-fatal-courtroom-act-ruins-michael-hockey-stick-mann/

What do the impeachment of Donald Trump and global warming have in common? They are both political. In the case of impeachment, it is a bid to win back control of the US government. In the case of global warming, it is a bid to implement world communism.

Do you not find it remotely curious that this is a discussion of the efficacy of capitalism and we are talking about global warming? Here is a peak behind the curtain:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/aoc-chief-of-staff-confirms-green-new-deal-was-not-really-about-the-climate

AOC is now linked at the hip with America’s own communist Senator, Bernie Sanders. When people reveal that they are doing something so massively covert, I just take them at their word.

Ex, one last word before I am off the clock.

When people like Michael Mann get caught red-handed, they don’t say, “Oh gosh, you got me!” When billions of people are fooled by an elaborate hoax, they don’t say, “Oh gosh, I guess you were right after all!” Study the history of the Seventh Day Adventist Church:

I saw a documentary on the Turing Shroud once. This also made the claim that carbon dating had proved the relic could not have existed anywhere near the time when Jesus was said to have been crucified.

However, it also went on to talk about the work of this guy who proved that the fragment of cloth used for the purposes of carbon dating had in fact been added much later. Of course, this does not prove that what we have here is actually the very shroud in which Jesus Christ was wrapped. But it does mean the ‘medieval forgery’ claim is not as irrefutable as you think.

I tend to believe CAGW is a real thing because the convergence of evidence leads to that conclusion. But real scientific theories can lead to bogus and even dangerous movements. The theory of evolution is one such example. The idea of ‘survival of the fittest’ was corrupted into the eugenics movement which, in its worst incarnation, became the justification for the Final Solution. I reject wholeheartedly the pseudoscience of eugenics but accept that the theory of evolution.

Similarly, while the convergence of evidence is best explained by accepting that CAGW is happening we should also be wary of those who might take that fact and distort it for the purposes of scaring others into dangerous outcomes. Manipulating people’s concern over runaway consumerism and financialisation and turning them into fears over an imminent environmental apocalypse in order to scare them into sacrificing privacy and private property rights and ultimately imposing world communism on us, might well count as an outcome every bit as bad as that which eugenics created.

I also don’t see how it can help if world communism is imposed on us. I am pretty sure that what you are thinking of ‘Communism’ (state socialism) is also a growth-based model so it would lead us into the same increasingly obvious problems of how to perpetually take more and more when we have access to only finite resources. And that’s assuming that it can overcome the other difficulties which Mises and Hayek identified as fatal for this kind of economic system.

As to that, well, one flaw in the Mises/Hayek argument is that they based their theories on how many calculations computers of the 1930s could perform and found it to be woefully inadequate for running a national economy. But that was before a single artificial satellite was put up in space let alone the advent of microchips many orders of magnitude more powerful than any calculator they knew of, all connected together in a global network. Really the idea that corrupted fiat or gold-backed currencies are the best means of calculating relative value in this day and age of lightning-speed communication and decentralised ledger technology with asynchronous Byzantine fault-tolerance is just laughable).

In any case I reject state socialism. What we need is a natural-law, resource-based economy that functions according to the principles of technical efficiency. Forget Trump. Forget Saunders. Follow Joseph:)
