Is abundance dangerous?

Came across this article:

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2018/mar/13/some-families-too-shady-tutors-of-ultra-rich?utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GU+Today+main+NEW+H+categories&utm_term=267362&subid=18350085&CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2

Gives me second thoughts about abundance. Anyone have any comforting ideas?

Teachers often run into situations like this. It is not just with rich people. Once, when I was teaching a math class to a bunch of plumbers at their union hall, they behaved as badly or worse than these rich kids. They were convinced that the class was an imposition and they actually threatened me with bodily harm. I don't think they meant it because they would have lost everything they have if they had carried it out. But they wanted me to believe they meant it.

I agree that people growing up without any real concerns would be problematic. People who do not want it to ruin their lives or their kids lives need to send them to schools where they will be discipline and reined in. In the future, kids may need to be raised in simulations where they experience the equivalent of real hardship and are rewarded with greater freedom only when they emerge as adults.

Many thanks. Have to think about this. Wouldn't have thought ordinary people behave like this to teachers.

Poverty is far more dangerous than abundance, in and outside of education

"Poverty is far more dangerous than abundance, in and outside of education"

Well put.

It is instructive to consider the parenting in both populations.

Out of touch parents in both cases are one part of the problem, and problem kids who might be violent are the other part.

In the poorest cases, the students are beating each other up in class, and beating teachers up. Thats some inner city classrooms.

Much worse than the very interesting - and as described in the article - very rare danger episodes with the rich.
