Re: HPV infection and cancer-Oral cancer
"living the dream"
Part of my Navy Career was STD counceller, educator, medical treatment, and detailed interviewing for public heath tracking and identifying infected "contacts."
Finding out very much made me grateful for my "luck" up to that point, which I then redefined in the other direction.
We dont bother tracking genital warts (HPV). They are so common, no effort is even made.
In San Diego, it went much further. My Public Health reporting contact told me not to bother tracking anything except the (thankfully) fairly-rare-in-my-experience Syphilis.
And most weird of all, and more well known today - "bug chasers." Young men then, and maybe older ones as well these days, who intentionally use no protection and hope to catch HIV infection.
They have grown up in a generation taught to respect homosexuality and to respect and love the HIV "victim." He is a hero! Looked at with respect!
And he gets both free treatment and many gifts!
Thus, the "bug-chasers." Weird but true.
