Note the fear and contempt in his eyes. It is ironic that over 150 years after the end of slavery in the US, that man finds himself back in slavery.

Except it didn’t really end, did it? If you look back over the history of the ‘abolition of slavery’ you will notice that there was an exception to the law that nobody could be forced to labour against their will. If you broke the law you could be condemned to forced labour. The justice system was set up so as to make it exceedingly difficult not to break the law if you were a former slave and even today the American prison-industrial complex is so draconian and unfair to the poorest US citizens that poverty in America is what is most likely to see you imprisoned and thrown into forced labour, rather than the demerit of your case.

Arguably, everyone in China is in prison...even the leaders.

I agree that the fate of modern blacks in the United States is the fault of whites. We should never have created the welfare state or made it easy to raise children without a father at home. Removing the shame from out-of-wedlock childbirth was a deadly mistake.

It doesn't matter. By the time we address any of these problems, technology will make all of them moot.

Extie -

The error of the "prison pipeline" idea is that the race fo those convicted for crime X is the same as the crime complaint on record for crime X.

So - no "extra Blacks" were swept up by our evil criminal justice system.

We have "extra Blacks" in jail because Blacks keep outperforming on Crime compared to all other races.

Studies show that Asians commit the least, on average. We Whites and Hispanics fall between the hardly criminal-at-all (on average) Asians and the very criminal (on average) Blacks.

This is stuff that many on the left have never heard or read. It can be jarring when one has supped from the cup of "sweet equality" for a long time.

Blacks, let us admit rarely chose the path of education, even where education was blocked to them, as a fix for climbing out of slavery. However, here, the problem is yeah black athletes, but it is white owners, coaches, corporations, the NBA, the NFL. The business side is more groveling to the Chicomms. Apply pressure to these creeps as we surely must in the face of Xi's aggressions, and we'll have something of substance.

Excellent political cartoon Spud.

The Commie Chinese can only be stopped by force, and Trump has the perfect solution. Starve them. We use to call that strategy a 'siege'.

I don't think Trump believes that the CC's can be enticed to behave. They want to take over the world. The best way to stop them is to cut them out of the West's economic system and let them stew until they boil over. Hong Kong is the child of Tiananmen Square.

Trump's trade war is not about economics but a great power confrontation. I think we'll win, if we keep Trump in the White House.

Four more years? How about 20!

I was not talking about race.

What I said was that in the USA your chances of being incarcerated by the prison-industrial complex is determined not by the merit of your case but rather by how rich and well-connected you are. In short, the poorer and less well-connected you are, the more likely you are to lose your case in court and the more draconian the sentence will be. A poor person found guilty of stealing a hundred bucks (perhaps for reasons which would cause empathic people to err toward lenience) will almost certainly face far harsher punishment than a very rich and well-connected person who steals a hundred million dollars in corporate fraud. In all likelihood if that guy has punishment imposed at all (which he probably won’t) it will be in the form of a fine which is a pittance in comparison to the amount stolen.

Similarly if you are a defendant whose case is highly meritous but you are poor and going up against somebody who is guilty as hell but very rich and well-connected and who can therefore afford big teams of legal experts as well as the expense of dragging a case through the legal system for years, you will almost certainly lose.

Having said that the super-rich are not guaranteed to get away with it. Should their actions piss off rivals just as rich and well-connected they might then face prison. So, for example, Michael Milken of Drexel Burnham was eventually sent down for three years when found guilty of fraud, insider trading and other white collar crimes. But then his junk bonds and aggressive corporate takeovers took on some very powerful people in the managerial world so that’s not so surprising.

Exceptional cases like this do not debunk the general rule that the US runs a two-tier justice system which is draconian toward the poorest and lenient almost to the point of non-existent for the richest, however. BTW this is one reason why capitalism keeps failing. Equality before the law is essential for competition to work in a truly productive way.
