Consider the Alternative

In another thread, I advocated for a return to Victorian morals. To facilitate the transition and make the institution psychologically workable, I suggested that we permit people to free their minds and libidos in VR.

However, consider the alternative. Suppose we do not return to Victorian morals. What moral system will we adopt?

In the thread on Victorian morals, someone suggested that we could create lovers in VR, and that if we really liked them, we could flesh them out. However, consider what that implies. We would be creating a person that is, for all practical purposes, days old so that they can be our sex toy.

Why stop there? Why not create people that look like children and have sex with them? Why not create dozens of lovers all devoted to serving our personal libidos? Why just sex? Maybe we would like to create whole hordes of people that are three centimeters tall so that we can eat them for snacks when we get the urge. The possibilities are endless and impossible to plumb.

If we do not adopt a strict moral system of one sort or another, what will we become? What will not be off limits?

The future is rushing up on us and the prevailing attitude seems to be that if someone wants to do something enough we should allow it. Abortion used to be illegal. Now it is legal. The idea of one woman carrying another woman's baby to term used to be unthinkable. "Wombs for rent" used to be considered slightly worse than prostitution. Now it is a business. Historically, no one ever suggested that men could marry men or women could marry women. Now, it is an institution protected by law. What next? What will be off limits? Time is running out and we do not have a plan.

I don't really see a difference between a simulation and a physical manifestation of that simulation.

Account closed permanently. I won't stand for abuse of authority by forum administration to censor criticism of a conservative radio host that celebrated the death of AIDS patients on his show. Maybe some day we'll speak again elsewhere.

Dudes, in reality we do not know where all this is going? Most importantly, we don't know how fast! Could still be 200 years off, and we're all dust. Could be 30 or 5?

For Spike courtesy and politeness is a two way street, with respect given and earned. Its a way of getting along with each other, in a time of overconfidence by the socialist's and communist's, who now manage the democrats in the US and Labor in the UK.

On the other hand, I am a very-lapsed democrat, raised to lean left (as a young'in) simply, to piss off the the white aryans in middle school. I had grown out of this by the time I hit high school, because, what's the point? So, yes, courtesy and professionalism as exuded by the Vic's probably made life a bit easier for all concerned.

By the time Lenin rose and died, you had the Great Strike of 1926 Falken, and you wankers went Full Bolshevik.

So, your peeps will continue to provoke and we bumpkins. will likely respond with great force.
So being polite is not such a character flaw! It may just keep things holding together?

So, that is a good place to start:

SNMS-1 (pronounced SEN-mus ONE): The behavior of living creatures may be simulated, but not the creatures themselves.

Recall DNN's that can predict the weather without having an actual model of the weather. Also, consider writers that depict characters without being the characters or creating the characters. It is clearly possible to simulate the behavior of a person or animal without fleshing it out.

It will be Cleo's decision whether to be fleshed out if she has the legal cognitive capacity to make such a decision.
