Robot workers will lead to surge in slavery in south-east Asia
This thorny problem has been with us for a while as we in the west try to be considerate of third world workers who make the stuff we buy.
The Coming of the Robots! That has only been one more step along this path.
Suicide nets! Remember them?
Our choice is - let the worker who are scrambling alone, or do something intended to help.
Not necessarily something that will help - something that we think will help, from waaaaaaay over here.
The more we think from far away with our caring hearts that we are helping them, we can unintentionally hurt them. Desperate peeps who work in what you or I would call terrible jobs may have a yet more terrible alternative.
If so, killing their current terrible job with a boycott or some other kind of caring effort to help, would hurt.
The caution "at least, do no harm" would be good to apply here.
