Re: The Golden One and Rocket Man Shake Hands This seems to be a step in the right direction, but North Korea has made this kind of agreement before so I'm still skeptical that we'll see any real progress. Either way, I'd rather see Trump and Kim signing agreements than trading insults.

Re: The Golden One and Rocket Man Shake Hands "...North Korea has made this kind of agreement before so I'm still skeptical..."
Yes, lucid, as I marvel at the dealmaking, I, you and anyone who has paid attention to the NORK issue for decades knows that fast moves similar to a wife-beating husband and his victim-wife are typical of them.
Ex: "I love you, baby! C'mere! Gimme a hug!"
*smack* "You failed! Do what I said!"
*Repeat sequence here*
All who have followed this as I noted know that prior US Presidents gave tons of money and physical gifts to the NORKs in the past, when these kinds of negotiating sessions were in play.
Deals were so promising! Presents galore were worth it "for the chance of peace!" Only to get slapped later with threats and missiles.
I mean, missles shot over the nation of Japan, for instance. The recent missile shot over their heads is not the first time.
Also, Japanese and South Korean nationals have been kidnapped for ransom by the NORKS in periodic jabs of very overt hostility. This gets minimal press in the US, as does most international news that is not directly impacting some American.
The NORKS then added Nuke frosting to the toxic cake that is the relationship between them, and us and our allies.
Add to this messy issue a Party in South Korea that acts toward the NORKS like our Dems did all through the Cold War - "trust them! They are just like us! Dont be so durned suspicious - offer love!"
Thats the Party in power right now. Fortunately for Pres Trump, the S Koreans take a routinely cooperative stance with us when we are clear about our directions and requests.
Thats fortunate, because Pres Trump gives very blunt, clear messages when he really wants to communicate.
We will have to wait and see how this very different, very "out of the box" President manages this deal.
Re: The Golden One and Rocket Man Shake Hands There is no questioning that this is historic...regardless of the outcome.
Donald Trump has claimed a page of Global history regardless the outcome. He still faces a considerable opposition back home, but by pardoning Jack Johnson the notoriously womanizing African American Boxer from the early 20th Century and releasing the Grandmother that Kim Kardashian met with him about he is now a statesman whose opinions will be carefully evaluated each time. History has a way of teaching brutal lessons but Trump has nearly 2 years in established himself as a ‘notable presence’ on the world stage. He will still face the results of the midterms and of course he will face some kind of opponent the Democrats will offer up in 2020 and at that point he will be on the defensive.
History is a harsh mistress...
Re: The Golden One and Rocket Man Shake Hands I suspect that what will happen is that the N. Korean agreement will go better than anyone dreamed, there will be a red wave, Trump will last the full eight years, and the United States will spend the next thousand years looking for another Trump.
