Non-smokers twice as likely to develop Parkinsons

This sounds a little fishy to me. Why has it taken so long to detect this statistic‽

Probably, no one was looking for it. Modern computerized analysis may have revealed it. They had the computer look for any correlation, and that one popped up.

My guess is that there is some compound in cigarette smoke, perhaps nicotine, that causes the effect. If they isolate it, they may have a partial or complete cure. The effect may also be indirect. Maybe people who smoke are more relaxed or less obese...just wild guesses.

Maybe they have the cause and effect backward. Maybe people who are likely to develop Parkinson's are less likely to smoke.

Nicotine probably binds with the amyloids that causes Parkinson. Name your poison.
