GOP operatives raising possibility Trump 'could drop out of race' if polls don't rebound
Fox's Gasparino: GOP operatives raising possibility Trump 'could drop out of race' if polls don't rebound
A Fox News report on Sunday says that "GOP operatives are for the first time raising the possibility" that President Trump could drop out of the 2020 presidential race "if his poll numbers don’t rebound" against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
The report by Fox Business Network senior correspondent Charlie Gasparino, political reporter Andrew O'Reilly and producer Lydia Moynihan comes as the former vice president leads the Republican incumbent by 9.2 points in the RealClearPolitics index of major polls.
The lead for Biden was 5.5 points right before the police killing of George Floyd, which sparked protests and unrest throughout the country. This came amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 120,000 people in the United States. Trump has been heavily criticized for the administration's response to the crisis.
“It’s too early, but if the polls continue to worsen, you can see a scenario where he drops out,” a GOP operative who asked to remain anonymous told Fox News.
--- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why is it that not one of the Republican officeholders objecting to Biden's victory have objected to their own wins on the same day on the same ballots using the same election systems??!

OMG, if Trump drops out there won't be anyone running for president. It will be like one of those county level positions where the same guy wins every year because on one else wants the job.

Pence?

Trump has such a huge ego he actually might drop out to avoid an inevitable loss. At the moment he is behind in 20 states he would need to win in November.

If he drops out, I expect him to claim that it is for "medical reasons". He'll probably blame the Democrats for causing him too much stress.

Re: GOP operatives raising possibility Trump 'could drop out of race' if polls don't rebound
I can actually imagine Trump being behind in the polls where it is inevitable that he will lose and saying, "It looks like Americans don't want what I am offering, so I am going to let someone take the mantle that may be more to their liking." Then, he might step aside and let Mike Pence be the Republican candidate.
This is all assuming that in five months Joe Biden will still be in the lead. I have reason to doubt that. The problem is that Joe Biden really can't lead and sooner or later voters will be confronted with that reality. I know it, Democrat leaders know it and I think that all of you at least suspect it.
Time will tell. I long to see the future, but to wish for November is to wish four months of our lives away.

For Biden to have survived 38 years in Public office and to have demurred to Obama as Vice for 8 years means he has earned the right to lead.
He would be a fine President, and the talent pool who would sustain his vision, would be stellar. His choice for Vice is important, they must be capable of assuming the leadership because he is 77. Time will tell.

Rich, someone who dies from Alzheimer’s at 77 (brain death) may deserve to have become president when they are 78. However, being president is a job, not an honor. Someone has to actually do it. No one named "Joseph Robinette Biden Jr." can actually do it.

Biden "earned" the job as President?
Welcome to your own opinion. Back in reality, a majority vote in enough States to win the electoral college is how ya get that job.
Not by being a politician for scads of years.
Trump earned it the real way. Biden will have to as well, if he really wants the job. He has quit running for President in the past - many smart cookies now predict he's gonna step down for Kamala Harris.
I would really like to see that Dem ticket.
I see Don hitting them both with cutting jibes that neither will give responses that earn them support.
