ugh! I did drama at high-school and was dragged to the London Broadway production. I had to review it and basically shÄt on it. Andrew Lloyd webber draws a lot of criticism from the high brow critics and for the most part, I concur. Looking back "Memories" from cats does evoke something - I think its partly down to being older and having more of a life to look back upon. Also "Dont cry for me Argentina" has that extraordinary bit going " The truth is I never left you All through my wild life My mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance." - but apparently he ripped off the melody.

Cats croaking makes me sad, so, idiotically, I will likely avoid this cinema. My wife and I are turned off by forcing ourselves to view Avengers 4 (out since April) because its 182 minutes long. Also theatre owners like to seat people in the 2 front most rows, so for 3 hours staring straight up like it's the Sistine Chapel is a no-no, even 4 months after 1st release.

A generation of people will know no other version. To them, THIS will be Cats.

Saw Cats on Broadway while it was still around and always remembered it fondly, but this is very much in uncanny valley territory for me.

I saw some blurbs on Drudge and thought it was some sort of horror show.

I usually don't like musicals but loved Moulin Rouge!, even tho I'm not a Beatles fan.

This one looked entertaining, but I won't be there opening night.

Don't understand why the Left hates it (too 'uncanny valley'?)

I don't know why anyone is assuming that there is some explicitly left/right divide here. I don't think there is anything political about "Cats" is there? For me it is purely down the to the CGI, yeah. Would have preferred entirely live action.

Ex, I'd go see it with you, but then you'd have to exist or something.

All I know about the live version is that it's a long-running hit.

This looks like a very straightforward adaption to screen, using CGI to make the stage props and makeup look in some ways better.

Many critics have criticism as their main selling point. Deconstruct all ye survey!

If peeps like it, critics wont kill it. Based on the Yuge success of the live version, it probably at least has a chance.
