Project “Broken Heart”: A MindX Topic

The Department of Justice today announced the arrest of almost 1,700 suspected online child sex offenders during a two-month, nationwide operation conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children task forces. The task forces identified 308 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse, and 357 children who suffered recent, ongoing or historical sexual abuse or were exploited in the production of child pornography.

A couple weeks ago I previewed these results. Apparently based on the title alone, Spike and Lucid complained it didn't belong in MindX. It's clearly did/does with the latest missive. Child porno is disgusting, and that's not a political statement. See previous discussion, in which Spike took the unprecedented action of blocking comments, here:

A Primer: The Deep and Very Horrifying State

Here, Spike explains his actions. He makes the false assertion that when the forum was redesigned, the bargain was that NewsFlash would be for politics. That's not true, at least in my descriptions of it in the run up to adoption. It was to be for partisan politics and the tit and tat, Rep/Dem type exchanges. I gave an example of a book review of Pat Buchanan. That belongs in MindX, not NewsFlash, although most of Buchanan books have an element of politics.

Spike Acts Arbitrarily

Spike should reverse his arbitrary and unprecedented action of blocking the 'Deep State' thread.

Your problem is that you keep combining multiple topics into one thread which turns a non-political topic into a political one. You didn't previously post a thread just about child abuse, you posted a thread about child abuse and the deep state. You spent the majority of the original post discussing the deep state, included a video about the deep state and the topic of the thread was "A Primer: The Deep and Very Horrifying State".

This time around, you're combining child abuse and issues that should really be put in the Foundation & Bureaucracy section. Even if you remove the whining about Spike, a thread about the DOJ catching a bunch of child abusers should really go in the news section as well. Not because it is political, but because it is really more of a news story than something that is important because of its connections to emerging trends in science and technology. Given that it involves crimes that happened online, I guess you could argue that it is tangentially related to technology, but it still seems like it would be more appropriate in NewsFlash.

Nobody is trying to censor you, we just want to keep things organized. We have forum categories for a reason. You're more than welcome to repost your deep state thread in NewsFlash as far as I'm concerned.

Account closed permanently. I won't stand for abuse of authority by forum administration to censor criticism of a conservative radio host that celebrated the death of AIDS patients on his show. Maybe some day we'll speak again elsewhere.

RedQ you seem very passionate about the intricacies of how a forum (with a handful of members) lurking at the arse end of the Internet is run. Nobody is stopping your insane ramblings, you just need to acknowledge what the consensus of our community (ha! community) define as appropriate posts in the correct subforum.

If you want to vent about stuff thats not futurist/technology based why not go somewhere else? Somewhere with more than 6 readers - why bring it here of all places? Why harass us humble Transhumanists with totally unrelated waffle?

OK you bunch of 'honest brokers', should a discussion of a book by Pat Buchanan defending the principles of Western Civilization be in MindX or NewsFlash?

The default placement of topics is Newsflash:

quote:

NewsFlash: This is really our forum's off-topic section. It is where you can post anything that does not belong in one of the other sections. Topics in this section can be controversial and even disturbing, but they should not be genuinely offensive.

Since it is not clear where this topic should be placed, it should be placed in NewsFlash.

Seriously, why? Why? you rarely post anything Singularity related. Perhaps if you did there would be more leeway on ambiguous topics. Anyway, Why this forum?

Anyway, Why this forum?

I have always felt that one of the draws of our forum is that it is a place where people whose interests are only marginally futurist can still express themselves. It does not matter what they post as long as it goes in the right section. If it is not futurist related, it should go in NewsFlash. If it is really awful, it should go in Netherworld. We have room for everyone, but they should respect our categories.

I actually don't understand why Red is determined to fudge categories. He seems to be a sort of "rebel without a cause". He needs to be an outsider...even in a place that has no outside. Maybe it is a symptom of the victim mentality we often reference.

James is just clumsy. He can't seem to hit the basket.

Rich seems to be suffering form some form of age-related dementia. He is a person who was obviously very sharp at one time, but now has vision that is going along with several other faculties.

I guess I am (sort of) breaking our rules by making these personal observations. Nevertheless, they seem pertinent in a topic that was designed to create friction and is in several wrong categories at once.

Thats fine. I really meant whats Red's motivation for coming here to vent. Surely he'd get more from a forum dedicated to politics. There must be a million lilly-livered, wonky-eyed liberals queuing up to debate the likes of red. Why on earth doesnt he engage on a platform that is more suited to his agenda?

When it comes to appropriate placing of content (does this belong in mindX or newsflash) I follow the simple rule ‘What Spiko says, goes’. If he says X topic belongs in newsflash, it does indeed belong in newsflash. This is his forum and his word on this matter is final.
