Iwo Jima

My family came here first.

My best friend and roommate is half Polish and half Malecite Indian. He is 65 and taking college classes to learn his Indian language. His father fought in WW2 along with three other brothers. Out of the four brothers, 3 came home. His Dad was on Omaha Beach on D day. Two of the brothers were Marines. They both were sent to Iwo Jima. One died there. More marines lost their lives there than in any other battle.

We must learn to love each other and accept the differences and let our democracy do its job. We all have flesh and blood and fighting is never good. Nationalism is not good for world prosperity. You can hide and build walls but we must come together as one people on one amazing planet. It might just be one in a Google. :)

Hey, Courtney here are more stats.

The 36-day Iwo Jima battle caused more than 26,000 American casualties, including 6,800 dead." The 82-day Battle for Okinawa resulted in casualties of over 62,000 of whom over 12,000 were killed or missing. Iwo Jima was also the only U.S. Marine battle where the American had more dead or wounded than the Japanese,.

Our military, and my truly amazingly respected Marines, merit much praise indeed.

Yet - the glories of war, in retrospect, should always include, after a moment of true respect for amazing accomplishments - some note of tragic idiocy that results in horrific death and destruction to absolutely no advantage in the conflict.

Our whole "island" hopping campaign can be looked at that way. Another option after Midway, the tables turned, and the Pacific war was going our way.

Our Navy and Naval Air was becoming more and more dominant all the time. It was one clear option to only go for a few islands that offered airbase possibilities and use our ever-growing surface and submarine fleets to isolate all the islands that the Japanese were occupying.

Thats also true for the incredibly costly - in lives and cash - Okinawa campaign.

Our military planners, and those of other very professional militaries then and up to today, have show terrible results in analyzing the enemy for specific battles. The land in as much exquisite detail as possible, the weather, all issues.

Okinawa was a very expensive way to find out that almost all enemy citizens would use sticks and stones if they had to, to fight us.

The result of finding that out was our decision to not go through an even worse version by invading the main island. Instead - hey, lets just burn the whole country down!

No exaggeration. Many cities on the main island were burnt almost to the ground with repeated flights of napalm bombing. City after city. More destruction was caused by that than the two Atom bombs.

No question about it - ya gotta have a strong military, and others have to know it, to do your best to try to prevent war. So, as it has been said by many more than I:

God bless the US Marines.

The democrats have to demonstrate by policy-not words, that they want the USA to exist as a nation state for a while. Right now most democrats see themselves as Citizens of the world-cows, Hence, open borders.

Beyond this-you don't see me arguing much, against socialism, or drugs, or welfare, or fiscal conservatism, or about abortion, or birth control, or other things that a true conservative pushes against. The Valor of people 75 years ago, doesn't count for much if the country they fought to defend, is pissed away by Ruling Elites, and the libs just go along with it. The USA thing--is non-negotiable. If you don't want your country to survive, and think that Globalism or whatever will protect you anyway, is magical thinking.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion (long term), but how much of the rest of the world do you think you could count on to vote the way you might want? (currently)
If the EU dropped borders with the Near/ Middle East and North Africa and everyone voted democratically, how would that turn out?

Is there a country in the middle east (outside of Israel) that even attempts to conform to your (liberal) ideals? Or North Africa?

Could the left still count on enough migrants to continue defaulting to the opposite side of nationalists (to their benefit) if there is no nationalism?

I'm sure many of the shepherds on the left know better, but also bank on the idea that the right wouldn't actually willingly drop shields and let it happen. (for the moment) So they can play off of it to their *sheepdogs, as if they really want that. "...but those darn Republican villains won't let us! Darn them!!"

*(they actually seem to want those borders down more and more ASAP.)

I would also like to add that my good friend and housemate has been the choir director at our local Catholic church for at least 25 years! He knows how to love unconditionally.
