acinda Ardern’s advice for world leaders: don’t be on the wrong side of history
New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had some choice words for fellow heads of state who aren't pulling their weight in the fight against catastrophic climate change.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to know what is the right side of history while you are making it. I seriously doubt that Christopher Columbus was warned to be nicer to native Americans.
In fifty years, historians may marvel that we worried so much about a condition that was changing incrementally and could easily be countered with eventual technological fixes when we should really have been worried about the advancement of AI, broadcasting our location to space aliens, or over-using antibiotics in a way that resulted in more virulent strains.
It would be really ironic if the bane of civilization turned out to be our relaxation of a moral system that served us for millennia.

"The wrong side of history" was a phrase invented by Lenin to sell the weak willed and selfish.

Re: acinda Ardern’s advice for world leaders: don’t be on the wrong side of history
NZ has the right to get as wiggy as they wanna with the "Climate Alarmism boogy."
Spike was right, I think, when he pointed out that it's veddy long term if its a risk at all.
All of us, LOAR or no, know that some crucial tech advances are on a "Rayski Log Curve."
Rays' curve beats the pants off of what Spud points out is an old lefty trope - "the curve of history."
Hah! Tell it to the Soviets.
Even over there, in the descendant dictatorship that followed that nightmare, Putin has his schools teaching all three volumes of the Gulag Archipelago:
"MOSCOW (AP) - “The Gulag Archipelago” is essential reading for Russian students, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday _ unusual words of praise from a former KGB agent for Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s explosive book on the crimes of the Soviet regime."

Re: acinda Ardern’s advice for world leaders: don’t be on the wrong side of history
“I saw a huge steam roller,
It blotted out the sun.
The people all lay down, lay down;
They did not try to run.
My love and I, we looked amazed
Upon the gory mystery.
"Lie down, lie down!" the people cried.
"The great machine is history!"
My love and I, we ran away,
The engine did not find us.
We ran up to a mountain top,
Left history far behind us.
Perhaps we should have stayed and died,
But somehow we don't think so.
We went to see where history'd been,
And my, the dead did stink so. ”

Wow! Many years since I read any Vonnegut. Thanks, Spud. Good poem.
