It may be that we share a whole bunch, but not all. That we share enough commonality to make it seem as though the world we sense is mostly the same.
It certainly makes sense to agree that what we sense as reality is close enough to what we can agree is external reality for successful daily functioning for us and most of the world.
an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder.
Re: In Common In my early thirties I became interested in God and read Rays book the age of spiritual machines. It occurred to me in the 90's that God must be a super intelligence derived from computer advancements. I have been waiting all this long for AGI and SAI. Im not sure what is going to happen. God just might let them destroy us. He does after all give us great freedom. Here is hoping for a good outcome.
Re: In Common "Something might destroy us." (Paraphrase) From my youth and up to now that has been true, and now we add more players to the Nuke "Russian Roulette" game of my youth.
I and many of my fellow Sci fi fans have also considered the "Lucifers' Hammer" game-ender as a real risk.
AI destruction of human civilization, or even of the species is but a new risk added to the list. But today we have a real hope for a strong survival of high tech civ.
That reason to be encouraged is the crop of billionaires such as Elon who want to go "up and out." We are still at the risk we have been at for so many decades. If we "pop the big one," if we "blow it all up" like a bunch if idiots...
Well, hopefully, Elon and the others are moving fast enough that, if that bad result comes to be, then among the survivors will be some "up there."
So some may survive with a grasp of very high tech an a foothold of security. Secure from ravening hoards of desperate and probably soon to die people who are gonna go after anyone on their way down - hoping for one more day.
