Re: 'There is no God,' says Stephen Hawking in final book - CNN Reason is overrated. As Benjamin Franklin observed, “So convenient a thing to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for every thing one has a mind to do.” I am a man of faith...who is also interested in science and futurism.
Re: 'There is no God,' says Stephen Hawking in final book - CNN When I was in the eighth grade, my home room teacher used to say, “You’re a good man [name omitted] Brown.” I realized what he was saying, and there was some truth to it. Nevertheless, I have my retirement planned and most of the “Lucy’s” of the world do not.
Re: 'There is no God,' says Stephen Hawking in final book - CNN I only know the behavior I have seen here and on the former kurzweil forum. (your blog also)
Going online changes people (to the degree that it does/or doesn't)
I remember in 2011 or 13 you sent me a picture like this one in a post on kurzweil forum.

Re: 'There is no God,' says Stephen Hawking in final book - CNN Getting back on topic.
In my opinion, deterministic mechanics is the real dogma of our age. Somehow, during the scientific and industrial revolution, we lost track of a simple fact: consciousness is not in the world; the world is in consciousness. Somehow, we settled on this idea, that actually conflicts with our most basic observation, that the universe is a giant clock made of dead, simple parts that follow a set of deterministic rules. Somehow, in the process of investigating the laws of physics, we settled into the new religion of Materialism. Deterministic mechanics is good for building cars and transistor radios. It is not a philosophy. Stephen Hawking was not a genius. He was an idiot savant.
