Ben Goertzel is into pseudoscience BS

I have a huge amount of respect for Bens work on AI - amongst alot of players he's right at the top of the game. But hes into some really flakey ideas too.

Psychic abilities, even makes a case for homeopathy. To me this undermines him as a scientist.

What if he's kidding?
A true(?) charlatan is always serious and cannot be trusted.

On KAI I replied to this referring to the Psi stuff as disreputable, and saying still respect Ben for the good AI stuff.

Now as I think about this I recall years ago, as an adult, reviewing Psi related stuff I rejected as a much younger man. That younger me rejected this stuff after a still younger version uncritically and enthusiastically simply liked this "cool stuff" that had been a stock element in so much of the youth-oriented Sci-Fi I had read.

Now much older, I think that among mountains of easily rejectable schlock und dreck, that there were some possible true curious cases.

I can offer zero support of this, but do have the memory of thinking that. I was a doubter at that time, so to me, that strengthens the likelihood there is something there.

So if Ben persists with this, I hope he highlights one or two of the strongest most curious cases. Much like an earlier writer dd, named Charles Fort.

Like Fort, Ben may doubt what he is discussing, or, like some of Forts followers, he may really believe - [sign in to see URL]

Just as odd events come to be sometimes called "Fortean coincidences," at some point in the future when a poltergeist makes the news it will be called a Goertzel.

If you all want to criticize, and who doesn't? Then link to the dude's own words and such, so you have a firmer idea. Also, remember, that Goertzel is way ahead of us neanderthals. In the same sense, that nobody in 1856 could have devised a means of detecting neutrino's, but in 1956, scientists did.
